Crabapple Academy  is a family owned and operated private school for early childhood. We have provided a vibrant, compassionate, and creative community for children, parents, and teachers since 1991.  Since opening our doors, we have seen many of our graduates go on to excel in academics, sports, and the arts. We even have a few of our “original” teachers!  We offer care for children from six weeks of age to the fifth grade. We believe that our small size and independent ownership allow us to provide a more personal, relationship- based environment between teachers, children, and parents. Once you've experienced the warm, familial, enriching, and communicative environment of "the Apple," you will understand what makes our school so special.

Our core curriculum was developed by our director, Sara Hake and enhanced by our owner, Ellen Farnsworth. It reflects a combination of several different early childhood ideologies and philosophies. It incorporates an "old school"  ideology : weekly themes, daily schedules, manners, proper hygiene, safety, and respect (and reading, writing and 'rithmetic, of course!), as well as principles of the emerging Reggio Emilia approach : an engaging and aesthetically pleasing environment that encourages problem solving, long term class projects, an emphasis on community between children, parents, and teachers, and use of multiple artistic mediums to express an understanding of concepts. Various means of documentation (particularly photographs) of both core and emerging curriculums  are a key element in the communal feeling of Crabapple Academy.

Our freedom as an independent institution to develop a curriculum with this amount of depth is an extraordinary advantage for the children in our care. Our goal is to send every child to kindergarten prepared to solve problems independently, create instinctively, express effectively, behave appropriately, perform academically, and act confidently.

Family owned and operated for over 20 years!
